Shanta Sinha is a prominent social activist and an academician who is widely recognized for her pioneering work in the field of child rights. She is the founder of the Mamidipudi Venkatarangaiya Foundation, commonly known as MV Foundation, which has been instrumental in eliminating child labour by mainstreaming children into the formal education system. She received the Ramon Magsaysay Award in 2003 for Community Leadership in recognition of her efforts to guide thousands of children out of exploitative work and into schools. Her approach is based on the philosophy that no child should work and every child has the right to attend a full-time formal school. She also served as the first chairperson of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights. Therefore, she is best known as an anti-child labour activist.
