Explanation

Tabo Monastery is located in the Spiti Valley of Himachal Pradesh. It was founded in 996 AD by the Tibetan Buddhist translator Rinchen Zangpo. Often referred to as the Ajanta of the Himalayas due to its exquisite wall paintings and stucco statues, it is one of the oldest continuously functioning Buddhist monasteries in India. Options such as Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, and Uttarakhand also house famous monasteries, but Tabo is specifically situated in the Lahaul and Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh.
