Explanation
Lord Wellesley served as the Governor General of India from 1798 to 1805. This period coincided with the peak of Napoleons expansion in Europe. To counter the threat of French influence and Napoleons potential invasion of India, Wellesley adopted an aggressive expansionist policy. He introduced the Subsidiary Alliance system to bring Indian princely states under British control and defeated Tipu Sultan in the fourth Anglo Mysore War, thereby securing and consolidating the British Empire in India during a time of global crisis.
