  1. ABoth A and R are individually true and R is the correct explanation of A
  2. BBoth A and R are individually true but R is not the correct explanation of A
  3. CA is true but R is falseCorrect
  4. DA is false but R is true

Explanation

The correct answer is C because while the Assertion is true, the Reason is false. Assertion A is true because major west flowing rivers like the Narmada and Tapi flow through hard rock rift valleys and have short courses before hitting the Arabian Sea. Due to the high gradient and narrow coastal plains, they flow with high velocity and deposit their load directly into the sea, forming estuaries instead of deltas. Reason R is false because it is scientifically incorrect to say these rivers carry no alluvial sediments. All rivers carry some amount of sediment derived from erosion. However, the quantity of sediment carried by west flowing rivers is significantly less compared to east flowing rivers because they flow through hard volcanic rocks and have much shorter routes. Therefore, the lack of deltas is due to the high velocity and geological terrain, not a total absence of sediment.
