Explanation

For election to the Lok Sabha (House of the People), a person must be a citizen of India and their name must appear in the electoral roll of any constituency in India. It is not necessary to be a resident of the specific constituency from which they wish to contest, as long as their name is on an electoral roll somewhere in the country. The Representation of the People Act, 1951, lays down these qualifications. Therefore, being a citizen and registered voter in any constituency allows one to file a nomination paper.
