Explanation
To understand why Suez is the correct answer, you must look at the geography of the route from Mumbai to the Mediterranean Sea.
When traveling from Mumbai, a ship crosses the Arabian Sea, enters the Gulf of Aden, passes through the Bab el Mandeb strait, and sails north through the Red Sea. The city of Suez is located at the southern entrance of the Suez Canal. Therefore, a ship reaches Suez before it ever enters the canal itself.
In contrast, Alexandria, Port Said, and Benghazi are all located on the Mediterranean coast. To reach these three cities from Mumbai, a ship must enter and completely pass through the Suez Canal to exit into the Mediterranean Sea. Since Suez is the starting point of the canal for ships coming from the south, you arrive there without having to pass through the waterway.
