Explanation
The dugong is a herbivorous marine mammal, often referred to as the sea cow. It belongs to the order Sirenia. Like all mammals, dugongs are warm blooded, breathe air through lungs, and nurse their young with milk. They are not fish or amphibians because they lack gills and have a specialized anatomy suited for life entirely in the water while maintaining mammalian biological traits. In India, they are found in the Gulf of Mannar, the Palk Bay, the Gulf of Kutch, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. They are currently listed as vulnerable on the IUCN Red List.
