Two Statements S1 and S2 are given below with regard to four numbers P, Q, R and S followed by a Question: S1: R is greater-than P as well as Q. S2: S is not the largest one. 1. AS1 alone is sufficient to answer the Question
  2. BS2 alone is sufficient to answer the Question
  3. CS1 and S2 together are sufficient to answer the Question, but neither S1 alone nor S2 alone is sufficient to answer the QuestionCorrect
  4. DS1 and s2 together are not sufficient to answer the Question.

Explanation

The question asks to identify the largest among four numbers P, Q, R, and S using the given statements. Analyze Statement S1: "R is greater-than P as well as Q." This means R > P and R > Q. From this statement, we know R is larger than P and Q. However, we don't know the relationship between R and S, or between S and P/Q. For example: - If S > R, then S could be the largest. - If R > S, then R could be the largest. Therefore, S1 alone is not sufficient to determine the largest number. Analyze Statement S2: "S is not the largest one." This statement tells us that S is not the maximum value among the four numbers. It doesn't provide any information about the relative order of P, Q, and R, or how they compare to S (other than S is not the absolute largest). For example: - P could be the largest (P > Q, P > R, P > S). - Q could be the largest (Q > P, Q > R, Q > S). - R could be the largest (R > P, R > Q, R > S). Therefore, S2 alone is not sufficient to determine the largest number. Analyze S1 and S2 together: From S1: R > P and R > Q. This implies that P and Q cannot be the largest numbers, as R is greater than both of them. From S2: S is not the largest number. Combining these facts: - P is not the largest (from S1). - Q is not the largest (from S1). - S is not the largest (from S2). Since P, Q, and S are all ruled out as the largest number, the only remaining number, R, must be the largest. Thus, both statements S1 and S2 together are sufficient to answer the question, but neither statement alone is sufficient. The final answer is C
